The History of InterGills Football Club:

The Intergills played their first season in the Medway Sunday League in 2005-2006 at Beechings Green, coincidentally that is where the Intergills were first formed. This is how it all began when we were younger more naive people and the world seemed a better place for it.......

The InterGills were formed in June 1997 by Keith Pestell, Nick Kennard and Carwyn Pipe, who ran what was then the only Gillingham FC website on the Internet.

The Internet Football Association (IFA) had just launched and were looking for supporters sides to take part in the very first Worldnet tournament, which was held in Middlesbrough.

Via the message board and mailing list the very first meet was arranged, and it took place on Beechings Way playing field one Sunday afternoon. The meet saw Gillingham fans from all walks of life come together on the football pitch. From students, publicans to Vicars (Kev the Rev), we had them all.

The training sessions, which were at that stage just turn up and play a match, initially took place every month, but as interest started to increase they were moved to every two weeks. As confidence increased thoughts turned to a team name, and we started looking for our first match. A few of the then players worked for a company called Micro Medical, who are based in Gillingham Business Park. They had just started their own football team and a match was arranged to take place at Lordswood Leisure Centre.

The team, which was picked by anyone who turned up to the Plough and Checkers on a Thursday evening, was decided along with a name. Suggestions for the name included Gillingham Internetters, Gills Supporters, Gills R Us, Hessenthaler's Barmy Army and InterGills - needless to say InterGills was picked. Everyone was then ready for the big match, and the InterGills’ first game. Unfortunately the elements were not on our side and heavy rain and strong winds caused the pitch at Lordswood to become waterlogged. Not to be deterred the match was moved to Luton Rec, with jumpers (or bags in this case) for goalposts... endearing image isn't it... hmmm.

The very first InterGills goal was scored within 30 seconds of kick off by Robert Bates, who to this day remains the top scorer for the side. Following the match several players left, and new players arrived. Nick Kennard moved away from the area after he thought the music played before Gillingham’s games was encouraging the wrong type of fan to Priestfield, while the website which got the ball rolling, The Gills Online, was made the very first Gills Official Website following a meeting between Keith Pestell and Gills chairman Paul Scally.
